Current Position on Council? University Students’ Council Representative (USC Rep)

Why are you running to be KUCSC President? I am running to be the next KUCSC President. I am running because I have an incredible amount of new and innovative ideas for the KUCSC and King’s. I am extremely passionate about student politics and I believe in the power of students to make the changes they want to see.

Experience? I am a two-time soph, King's intramural sports athlete, currently a University Student’s Representative (USC Rep), an executive of the Social Justice and Peace Club and an active student on campus. I can confidently say I have a well-rounded understanding of the King's student experience.

Platform Summary!

It is important to me that we think about indigenizing campus, fostering a safe and inclusive environment for indigenous students. If elected I will actively work to advocate for the needs of indigenous students.

If elected I plan on reducing the gap between the KUCSC executives and the rest of the student body ensuring that there is transparency, visibility and communication on all levels of the corporation.

Being a two-time soph, I have personally heard and experienced the struggles of sophing and I hope to work with my executives to make the program as financially accessible as possible hoping to eliminate sophing fees.

London is a beautiful city that has a lot more to offer than many students believe or have seen. From Old East Village to Wortley, from Masonville to White Oaks, and everything in-between there are pockets of London that students do not spend time in. I want to work with local London businesses to get students exploring beyond the Richmond Row..

In many ways our thought process regarding student council has been looking in-ward, focusing on how we can improve rather than creating new systems and new positions. I want to work to create more social representative positions such as an LGBTQ+ Rep and a First-Gen Rep while working to remove the necessity of commissioners and coordinators from council meetings.

If elected, I hope to develop a working relationship between the KUCSC and the City of London on the specific needs of King's students. Although it is not something that I can promise, my biggest platform dream would be to make the Broughdale Park (the park across the street from Broughdale Hall) a WiFi-enabled study spot that King's student can enjoy during the warmer months.

Candidates and presidents often forget that we the students have an important voice in the way we want to see our campus operate. Whether it is the little things like having more or better microwaves to the bigger issues like wanting to see a more fair system of parking, I want to advocate on behalf of King's students and make the kind of change you can see.

One of the key pillars of mental health that affects me is the number of hours I spend outdoors. If elected, I want to work with administrators to reinvigorate the green spaces on campus adding more picnic tables and strengthening outdoor WiFi so students can study outside during the warmer months.

Upon election, I will make improving mental and sexual health services my first priority. It's no secret that mental heath resources at King's are weak. If elected, I promise to advocate for stronger mental health services. especially during peak times of the year. Sexual health resources are a priority to me as it is something the University does not offer.

Commitment to social Justice

I would like to offer a commitment to faculty, students and staff that I will act with the principles of social justice in mind, being as socially conscious as possible, and fostering a KUCSC environment that is inclusive of all people and is as anti-oppressive as humanly possible.

I hope to empower the brilliant minds and voices of King’s students, bringing real solutions to real problems, and create an environment where new and fresh ideas can emerge and can be supported. Let’s be the change we want to see at King’s.

More Ideas!

Vision

Unfortunately, most students do not have the time nor the willingness to read a six page platform on top of their already heavy readings, so I have attempted to summarize my platform into an easier read with a more extensive version as a sub-page attached to each summary header.

International students pay a lot of money to come to King's and I believe that the KUCSC should foster an environment that is more inclusive of them. Furthermore, the KUCSC should be actively working to integrate international students into the King's community, creating more programming for international student such as travel trips to major cities.

The biggest problem I believe the KUCSC faces is the lack of student engagement. Students put on fantastic programming that is all too often under-attended. I want to actively work with the incoming Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to work to alleviate the lack of student engagement.

Although events would not be one of my responsibilities, I have a number of cool ideas for events at King's that I personally would love to see happen. I hope to work with the incoming Vice-President of Student Events to make this possible!

Success! Message received.
